National Intern_SHIFT & EP

As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We work in a variety of fields and support our cooperation partners in designing strategies and meeting their policy goals. GIZ Viet Nam is currently engaged in four priority areas: 1) Energy transition 2) Vocational training; 3) Economic development and private sector cooperation; 4) Environmental policy and sustainable natural resource use. Gender equality is one of the key values of our company and of the work we do. Fostering gender equality in our project operation and our internal equal opportunity provisions are two strategic pillars of our corporate identity and policy. Within the framework of the GIZ Energy Support Program, GIZ Vietnam is currently implementing several initiatives to accelerate Vietnam’s transition to a sustainable future including two key projects: Shifting Investment Flows Towards Green Transformation (SHIFT) & Vietnamese German Energy Partnership (EP).

The project SHIFT is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) as part of Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI). It has the objective to improve green policy and investment frameworks for enhanced climate action in Viet Nam, especially in the energy sector. The Ministry of Finance (MOF) is SHIFT’s project management agency, and the Department for Sector Finance and Economics (DSFE) is the project owner. This inter-disciplinary project is operating across four pillars: improving the enabling environment for green investment (Component 1), building government capacity for the energy transition (Component 2), strengthening green financial services in the banking sector (Component 3), and increasing private sector investment in decarbonization (Component 4).

In parallel, GIZ Viet Nam advises the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) on achieving its goals in energy cooperation with the Energy Partnership countries through the global Energy Partnership project. As a core instrument of Germany’s foreign energy policy strategy, the Vietnamese – German Energy Partnership project serves as a bilateral dialogue platform, bringing together actors from politics, business, civil society, and research in both countries.
